Man City ‘In At The Deep End’ With Hectic Start – Sterling
Raheem Sterling is confident that Manchester City can cope with their hectic start to the new campaign.
City head to Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of their Champions League playoff round three days after kicking off the Premier League season at home to Sunderland.
City begin the new domestic campaign with the visit of the Black Cats on Aug. 13, and follow the first leg in Romania on Aug. 16 with another league game four days later.
After finishing fourth under Manuel Pellegrini last season, they must now qualify for the group stage of a competition in which they reached the semifinals in 2015-16.
“It is right in at the deep end with three massive games,” England international Sterling told City’s official website.
“It is a good [Champions League] draw for us, but I think it will be a difficult one away first.
“But we just need to play our football and hopefully can win. We just need to try to get a result over there.”
Steaua, European Cup winners in 1986, were runners-up to Astra Giurgiu in the Romanian top flight and defeated Sparta Prague in the third qualifying round.
